DBT Group Therapy for Adolescents

Our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Group for Adolescents is a structured, skills-based program designed to help teens manage their emotions, navigate relationships, and build healthier coping mechanisms. DBT is an evidence-based therapy that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices, making it particularly effective for adolescents who struggle with emotional regulation, impulsivity, anxiety, depression, and self-harm behaviors.

Our DBT Group runs 17 weeks and each group is 75 minutes.

What is DBT Group Therapy?

DBT group therapy for adolescents focuses on teaching four core skill areas:

Mindfulness: Helping teens stay present and aware of their thoughts and emotions without judgment.

Distress Tolerance: Developing tools to cope with stress and crises without resorting to harmful behaviors.

Emotion Regulation: Learning to understand and manage intense emotions in healthier ways.

Interpersonal Effectiveness: Teaching skills to communicate more effectively, set boundaries, and maintain healthier relationships.

What to Expect in DBT Group Therapy

Group Sessions: Adolescents meet in a supportive group setting with others facing similar challenges. Sessions are led by trained DBT therapists who guide participants through skills training, interactive activities, and discussions.

Skills Practice: Teens are given opportunities to practice these skills both in and outside of the group, reinforcing their learning and helping them apply what they've learned to real-life situations.

Parental Involvement: DBT groups often include a component for parents, helping them understand the skills their teen is learning and how to support their progress at home.

Who Can Benefit from DBT Group Therapy?

DBT is especially beneficial for teens who:

Struggle with intense emotions and mood swings
Engage in impulsive or risky behaviors
Have difficulty with relationships or social interactions
Experience anxiety, depression, or self-harm
Struggle with suicidal thoughts or behaviors
